INTRODUCTION

This protocol describes general methods for dissection and fixation of rabbit embryos. Depending on the investigation, embryos can be dissected either alive or after fixation. Some embryonic stages are surrounded by an envelope, the zona pellucida, which might have to be removed for some applications (e.g., immunohistochemistry). Fixation methods vary according to different experimental needs, such as structure preservation (morphology), antigen preservation (immunoreactivity), or mRNA accessibility (in situ hybridization).
