| aMarker genes used during construction of packaging cells include herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (tk), a mutant methotrexate-resistant dihydrofolate reductase (dhfr*), xanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (gpt), hygromycin phosphotransferase (hpt), puromycin-N-acetyl-transferase (pac), blasticidin S (bsr), and bleomycin and phleomycin resistance (ble). These genes are indicated because selection for vectors carrying a particular selectable marker cannot be performed in
packaging cells that already express the marker.
