Eosin solution

2.5 g eosin Y (C.I. 45380)

495 mL H₂O

0.5 mL glacial acetic acid

This solution keeps for several months, and may be used repeatedly. Molds often grow in it and need to be removed by filtration. Addition of a crystal of thymol to the solution helps to retard the growth of molds.
