DAB staining solution for Drosophila

0.5 mg/mL DAB (3,3′-diaminobenzidine tetrahydrochloride)

0.003% H2O2

1.5 mM CoCl2

1.5 mM NiCl2

The addition of CoCl2 and NiCl2 is optional. They intensify the reaction product and give it a blue-black color; in the absence of these compounds, the reaction product will be brown.

Soak all materials that become contaminated with DAB overnight in bleach prior to disposal.
