Activity Paradigm to Induce Drosophila Larval Neuromuscular Junction Growth

Adapted from Drosophila Neurobiology (ed. Zhang et al.). CSHL Press, Cold Spring Harbor, NY, USA, 2010.

INTRODUCTION

This article describes a method for spaced stimulation of Drosophila motor neurons. The neurons can be stimulated for short periods of time (~2 h) and then fixed (or imaged live). The method allows one to examine the immediate effects of altering activity on synaptic protein localization as well as neuromuscular junction structure and function.
