α-Chloralose

1. Combine α-chloralose and PBS in a 50-mL Erlenmeyer flask. Add a stir bar then close with a stopper.

2. Add 40 mL of water to a 100-mL beaker. Place the 50-mL flask in the water with a thermometer.

3. Heat the solution to 80°C, stirring vigorously until the solute is fully dissolved and there is no clouding.

4. Cool to room temperature. Filter the 20-mg/mL solution through a 0.22-μm Millipore filter before administering it.
