Megaselia abdita: Culturing and Egg Collection

    INTRODUCTION

    This protocol describes methods for maintaining the scuttle fly Megaselia abdita as a lab culture. It comprises procedures for fly husbandry and egg collection. The completion of the M. abdita life cycle requires ∼18–20 d at 25°C. Embryogenesis lasts ∼24 h, larval development, 4 d, and the pupal stage ∼10 d.
