Food Media for Drosophila

| Tayo agar | 10 g |
| Sucrose | 15 g |
| Glucose | 33 g |
| Yeast | 35 g |
| Maize meal | 15 g |
| Wheat germ | 10 g |
| Treacle | 30 g |
| Soya flour | 1 tbsp |
| Water | to 1 L |
| Propionic acid | 5 mL |
| Nipagin solution (25 g Nipagin M [Tegosept M], p-hydroxybenzoic acid methyl ester] in 250 mL ethanol) | 10 mL |

1. Mix all of the solid reagents into water to a total volume of 1 L (do not include nipagin solution or propionic acid at this point).

2. Bring the solution to a boil, stirring constantly, then simmer for 10 min. Allow the solution to cool slightly (to about 70°C); then let it sit for 20 min.

3. Add in the nipagin solution and propionic acid and dispense the media into aliquots: 8 mL into each fly vial and 70 mL into each fly bottle.
