DMEM/F12 (GIBCO), 1 ml

Heat-inactivated rat serum, 1 ml

100x Pen-Strep (Sigma), 10 μl

HEPES buffer solution (1 M, pH 7.4; Irvine Scientific), 10 μl

Prepare rat serum as described in Preparation of Rat Serum except that rather than using a syringe to collect the blood, use a Vacutainer Safety-lok butterfly needle (Becton-Dickinson) and Vacutainer blood collection tubes (Becton-Dickinson).
