Sodium butyrate

(500 mM) In a chemical fume hood, bring an aliquot of stock butyric acid solution to a pH of 7.0 with 10 N NaOH. Sterilize the solution by passing it through a 0.22-μm filter; store in 1-ml aliquots at -20°C.
