Iodoacetic acid (0.5 M)
Iodoacetic acid (Puriss grade from Fluka, recrystallized prior to use)
Prepare a 0.5 M solution of iodoacetic acid (mw = 185.95) in 1 N NaOH immediately before use.
Store iodoacetic acid dry by placing the bottle in a plastic container containing silica gel in the dark at −20°C. Allow the bottle to come to room temperature before opening. With time, solid iodoacetic acid will develop a yellow coloration (free iodine) and should be recrystallized.
