40% PEG 8000

Reagent Amount to add (for 50 mL) Final concentration
PEG 8000 (Sigma-Aldrich 89510-250G-F)     20 g 40% (w/v)
ddH2O (sterile) Add to 50 mL
Transfer the PEG 8000 to a 50-mL conical centrifuge tube and add ddH2O to the 50-mL line. Mix vigorously to suspend the PEG 8000 in the liquid and displace air in the powder. Continue mixing (e.g., on a rotator) and adding ddH2O to 50 mL until the PEG 8000 is completely dissolved. To rapidly dissolve the PEG 8000, the suspension can be briefly microwaved for no more than 15 sec with the unscrewed lid placed loosely on top of the conical tube. (Do not attempt to microwave the tube with the lid screwed on.) To prevent gradual loss of activity due to polyether peroxidation and chain shortening, store for up to 6 mo at 4°C in the dark or freeze 10-mL aliquots at −20°C for long-term storage.
